The Officer Corps

The thin gray line ever the pride of the nation, seems to have fallen asleep at their post, while on guard duty. Guardians of the Republic awaken, and continue the mission.

From the first roll call, to the last, these words, Duty, Honor, Country.

I find in none of those sacred words, room for menial terms such as, political correctness, upward mobility, pension protection, self preservation. These words cheapen, and besmirch the legacy of the best of the best.

Bravery on the battlefield alone, does not cleanse away any other derelictions. Taking the hill, will not suffice. More is expected, more is required, more has always been given.

The Honor Code at West Point states, " A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do." A dozen plebeian words, that makes ramrod straight, Duty, Honor, Country.

Within the Officer ranks, West Pointers are a bred apart,it is a distinction they have earned. It is into these that all that is good about our military and our nation, has been poured out. They are the temporary vessels, the repositories, the keepers of the faith. The first link in the unbroken chain of the thin gray line from George Washington to the newest cadet. A sacred chain of fidelity residing within the walls of the fortress on the banks of the Hudson.

From 12 words, come three. Duty Honor Country.

Our Nation, our Republic, is under assault. All that is sacred, all that was ever gained, by the blood and sacrifice, of citizen patriots is being trodden upon, and spat upon.

The Flag is in the mud. Who will pick it up?
