Obama Has A Problem- New Mexico Congressional District 2

The story we ran on this blog citing candidate Steve Pearce's (R) willingness to investigate Barack Obama's legal status as related to the Presidency as required by Article II Section 1 of the Constitution, may soon put that willingness to the test come January 3, 2011 when the 112th Congress is sworn in at noon.

Steve Pearce is running against Harry Teague for New Mexico's 2nd congressional district. That district encompasses the majority of the southern half of that sparsely populated state of 1.5 million residents. Area wise New Mexico is the 5th largest state in the union, and Pearce's district is the 6th largest area wise in the country. Only 5 other states, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota have bigger districts because they each send only 1 representative to congress.

Traditionally NM-2 leans heavily Republican. Pearce was a 3 term member of congress 2002- 2008 then chose to run for the US Senate in 2008 but lost that race. In the election of 2008 Teague became the first Democrat to win that district in 30 years.

In the current race at the end of September Pearce is leading in the polls by +4 points over Teague.

NM-2 is predominately made up of white, middle class, ranching communities. This district has New Mexico's full common border with Mexico. The illegal immigration issue puts this district at the tip of the spear,on the front line. This district also shares boundaries with El Paso Tx, and Juarez, Mexico the hottest zone for cartel violence. Usurping the Constitution, ObamaCare, and pissing on the American Flag by Obama does not sit well with these salt of the earth patriots.

I expect Pearce to win this race, however during Pearce's prior 3 terms he voted with the Democrats more often than some other Republicans. My caution is electing Pearce may be sending a RINO to DC, but if he will go after an Obama investigation, this could be one RINO I could learn to live with for now.

Steve
