Calif. treasurer accused of campaign fund theft
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A longtime Democratic campaign treasurer with tax problems is accused of siphoning off nearly $700,000 from a California candidate’s account to pay her credit cards, a mortgage and business bills.
Kinde Durkee — who heads Durkee & Associates in Burbank, California — was arrested Friday by the FBI.
She has worked for U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and dozens of other state politicians.
A federal complaint filed Tuesday outlines an elaborate shell game in which Durkee secretly shifted money out of a state Assemblyman Jose Solorio’s campaign to pay for an array of debts, from a Disneyland restaurant to shopping at Costco.
Durkee is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles federal court Tuesday afternoon.
The complaint says she acknowledged misusing clients’ money for years and filing misleading records.

An election for President and Commander in Chief of the Military must strive to be above reproach. Our public institutions must give the public confidence that a presidential candidate has complied with the election process that is prescribed by our Constitution and laws. It is only after a presidential candidate satisfies the rules of such a process that he/she can expect members of the public, regardless of their party affiliations, to give him/her the respect that the Office of President so much deserves.
The real emphasis is always on getting other people's money...not on where it goes!
