The Right To Vote---With Authority, Comes Responsibility
We have all seen the man on the street segments Leno and Hannity do from time to time. They will ask people "Who is the Vice President" or " Name the Speaker of the House", "How many states are there in the USA " and so forth.
We alternately snicker and moan to think these are the people who vote and cancel out the citizens who take their civic duty seriously enough to at least try to get informed on an issue.
We also hear how on Election Day, the Democrats will clean out the Bowery and Crack Houses, offering a hot meal for a vote. Is this Democracy at its finest, or can't they do any better?
I say we need to do something about this problem. Our founding fathers refused to let the village idiots vote. Should we let the street people who are clearly insane vote for the leadership of this country?
Why not put say, 5 basic test questions on the ballot, questions asked on a Citizenship Test. A voter marks the answers, and casts his ballot. The ballot machine scores his answers before counting his vote.
If the voter answers the citizen questions correctly the vote is accepted, if not its rejected. Voila informed citizens are voting, and the idiots can go back to whatever they were doing before.

An election for President and Commander in Chief of the Military must strive to be above reproach. Our public institutions must give the public confidence that a presidential candidate has complied with the election process that is prescribed by our Constitution and laws. It is only after a presidential candidate satisfies the rules of such a process that he/she can expect members of the public, regardless of their party affiliations, to give him/her the respect that the Office of President so much deserves.
