Stop Mitt Romney – a milestone on the path to Defeating Obama

Ryan Gill is Vice President of The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama. He’s an activist extraordinaire whose work on behalf of conservatives makes frequent use of live events, social media, and press coverage, and has taken him everywhere from the Reagan Library in California to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Recently he has worked for Chuck DeVore in CA and Sharron Angle in NV and worked to bolster the campaigns of dozens of candidates nationwide through his work for Tea Party Express.

Ryan Gill on why Mitt Romney is not an alternative to Barack Obama.
You’ve probably heard some very clever strategy arguments lately that end with your having to support an establishment liberal as the best opponent to Barack Obama, and you probably even have friends who will repeat those arguments. Of course it’s never put that way, but then that’s exactly why it’s dangerous.
As the story goes, we need to get behind the person who can win the Republican primaries and who is most capable of beating Obama, even if that person is a noted liberal himself. Which he is, since everyone seems to agree that that person is Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney’s record is the closest to Barack Obama’s by far. He’s fought against conservatives on almost every important issue facing Americans today. Don’t believe me? Please watch this important web video that I put together with my colleagues at The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama. It’s truly worth your time, because every clip contains information you need to know.

But I have good news that the self-appointed smart people in the room are wrong once again. We do not have to choose between supporting a man who has spent a career fighting the principles and policies of the party he now wants to lead, or throwing away our votes and finding our efforts are counter-productive (though you’ll hear that a lot).
You wouldn’t know it from watching TV, but Mitt Romney does not have the nomination all but tied up and he’s not the best bet to beat Obama, no matter what today’s polls say. Rather, the time to decide who to nominate is just arriving. Plus at the end of the day, campaigns are about providing a clear contrast by offering a distinct and superior vision, not picking a convenient spot on an ideological spectrum. And once the voters pay attention to the candidates, that’s how they decide the winner.
So don’t let anyone tell you that this contest is over before it begins or that giving up your principles early is the key to claiming a win. After all, Tea Partiers didn’t get into politics to be more cleverly strategic than the career experts, just more effective at promoting small-government principles.
Sure, the media and some in the political establishment will persist in advancing the narrative that we have to get behind Romney in a hurry.   In truth that is ridiculous – there hasn’t been a single vote cast in any primary or caucus yet and having a healthy debate about the candidates is exactly what this time and this process is for.
We know from McCain in ’08 and countless other races through the years that voters will choose the “real deal” if offered the choice between a Democrat as in Obama, and the “lite” version as in Mitt Romney. And you probably remember how we all promised ourselves that we’d never again let the media choose our candidate; well, we had better start recognizing what it looks like.
So now is the time to rally behind a constitutional conservative. Let’s not let liberals in the media or the political establishment dictate to us that we can’t even have a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party before and during primaries.
That’s why we at The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama will launch a TV and radio ad blitz in key early primary & caucus states beginning later this month in Iowa. The video above is just the preview.
You may think this is risky, unpopular, or likely to make conservatives turn on each other, and you’d probably be right on all counts. But it also really needs to be done. Watch the video again if you have any doubts, then ask yourself if the man in that video can be trusted to represent Tea Party conservatives in the great debate against Obama liberals. Then be glad there’s still a little time to have this same serious conversation with our friends in places like Iowa and New Hampshire. And let’s get to work.
