CTM

Around 8:30 am est and the 9/12 crowd awaiting the National Press Club 10K run to finish (note runners to the right heading towards the WH). It was so tightly packed at Freedom Plaza the human ring swelled a quarter mile up Pennsylvania Ave. If you zoom in to the street sign to the upper right it reads 12th street NW I believe. Down by the original starting point was approximately 1600 Pennsylvania Ave near the White House at Freedom Plaza. This was all I could see from ground level and I called Gary at 10:am est to say there has to be 2 or 3 hundred thousand people right in front of me.

12:30 pm From my vantage point at Grants Memorial. The word spread that Pennsylvania Ave was still full since we began the march at about 10:15am. People were filing in both sides and front and back of the Capital Building's reflecting pond as well as the green zone next to the Captial we're looking at now. Pennslyvania Ave didn't clear for 3 hours until around 1:30. Not everyone marched up Pennslyvania Ave, many thousands assembled at the Capital and chose to meet the marchers there. I heard the announced crowd estimates accredited to the Capital Police dept. that first stated 1.2 million at noon, then revised to 1.5 million at 12:30pm. Shortly after that a helicopter was seen flying slowly overhead outlining the crowd's boundaries, then ABC said 2.0 million. (later retracted).

I'm back from Washington DC and after spending 9/11 and 9/12 in the most corrupt city in America, I am glad to be back home. I've been asked how I feel about the trip, and was anything accomplished by going there? My honest answer is yes and no. I was elated and amazed by the turnout and patriotism and I was dejected after talking with senior staffers of my Senators. I detected a whipped dog attitude by Cornyn's and Hutchinson's people " the yes but what can we do" syndrome. My answer was SPEAK OUT and do it often and loudly with a clear voice or we'd find someone else. I made a point to go over to Rep. Joe Wilson's South Carolina office and signed his visitor's register with a simple but large "Thanks Joe" next to my name and address.

I haven't quite been able to put a finger on just what to write about yet, I'm still absorbing it, it's a simple story really, yet there was enough to fill volumes. Some writer(s) vastly more able than me, will tell the complete story, I can only offer up vignettes.

What I can say for certain is America is full of resolve, to reclaim our nation. The military stress no matter what, the mission must be accomplished, they use a three letter acronym in their daily vocabulary- CTM.. Complete The Mission...

Two million of us left Washington and we are joined by millions and millions more across our land resolved to CTM.

Steve
