THE DISMANTLING OF AMERICA! Disgusting!

FROM ATLAS SHRUGS:

City Manager Bill Horne (ironic, the use of the flagpole in his publicity shot, eh?)

So let's understand this. Obama's thug administration can send $900 million to Gaza, cut Israel off at the knees, give billions to criminal racketeering organizations like ACORN, while charging businessmen for lunch at the White House (no joke) .............. The "company culture" comes from the top, and removing flags and flagpoles is a radical leftist thing to do. Frankly, it should be the last thing to go. First? The bureaucrats and the big government that is spending us into feudalism.

Why this is so dishonest and obviously an assault on our love of country is the fact that they had the bucks to take down thirteen flagpoles. I am sure there are hundreds, thousands of volunteers and vets who would have done it for nothing. And why take out the flagpoles?

This is not about money. This is about dismantling America. Readers in Florida must stage a protest, a tea party. Folks would come from far and wide. Hell, I'd hitchhike to get there.

Clearwater ditches flags to save cash

CLEARWATER — Here's probably the most bizarre casualty of shrinking government budgets you'll hear.

The city of Clearwater can no longer afford to fly the American flag.

Clearwater's parks and recreation director ordered the removal of 13 flagpoles from across the city this week saying budget cuts have made it impossible to properly care for the flags.

"Over the last three years, the parks and recreation staff has been reduced by 25 percent,'' explained director Kevin Dunbar. "When you have a flagpole, you have certain responsibilities. The flag has to be lit at night, if a flag has a rip in it, it has (to be removed). We don't have the staff to monitor these things anymore.''

So this week, Dunbar had city workers pull the poles out of the ground. The last flagpoles were removed Friday.

It appears to be the first time the American flag has been yanked from a government facility because of budget problems, according to a search of U.S. newspaper reports.

The distinction was almost immediately loathed by city residents, veterans and even elected members of the City Council.

How much can maintaining the flag cost, they wondered.

Why couldn't volunteers take over for the city, they asked.

Please contact the city manager and express your outrage. Ask him if there was anything else they could have cut instead -- like their salaries. Bill Horne is the City Manager, he is directly responsible for 1,846.5 employees and accountable for the annual operating and capital budget of $375 million.

Horne is a Democrat flying low under the radar in Republican-loving Pinellas County.
