The Third Party
As we approach November 2, 2010 more and more negativity will be said against having more than the basic two parties we now have in America. Viability, weakening the effort, splitting the vote allowing the wrong party to win, that sort of thing.
We've succumbed to the fallacy, fed us by the Big Two.
All across America we elect state and local officials via the run off election method. Why can't we do the same for the Federal elections?
We just had one here in Houston. It worked.
The basic rules are set forth, the the rest is up to the voters. Here it is normal for a mini multitude to vie for the various city positions. A candidate must take at least 40% or better to decide the election. If that doesn't occur, a Run Off takes place two weeks later, where the top two vote getters are pitted against each other.
Endorsement from the candidates that drop out is crucial for the run off survivors.
We need the run off election method in Federal elections. It shakes up the status quo. We no longer want Democrat/Republican business as usual. There is no time for the 2010 election to enact this reform, but we need to do this as soon as possible for our future. The Tea Party should seriously add this to their list of demands.
