Here's My Mike Castle Story

This was almost a year ago to the day. The friday before the 9/12 DC protest, I was making the rounds to the various congressional office buildings that are sited next to the capitol building.

To enter any of these buildings, you must go through security screening. Each checkpoint is manned by 3 or 4 capital police officers. Just as the airport or court house, you have to empty your pockets placing the contents in a bowl and then pass through the magnatometer.

There were two people wanting to go through security, myself and a suit wearing a scowl. Out of deferrence I asked Mr Suit if he would like to go ahead of me. Without a word, he went ahead. The black officer monitoring the view screen, looked up and made eye contact with me. We both had the same read of this guy as someone who just thought of himself as better than any of us.

I followed Congressman Suit, put my car keys and wallet back into my pockets and took the empty container and stacked it back in place for the next person. Congressman Suit put his stuff back into his pockets and started to walk off. Again the officer and I made eye contact, over the arrogance of Congressman Suit. I shrugged my shoulders and smiled, the officer called out " EXCUSE ME, you need to come back here and stack your container, sir." I was grinning broadly at that, as Congressman Suit, returned, still very much scowling AND put out, placed his container in the stack and stormed off. The officer chimed out loud as Congressman Suit walked away, " I don't know what makes people think I'm their maid.... " I said "You got that right " Both of us spoke loud enough for Congressman Suit to hear us, as he walked off.
