Trump: Rove Needs to Retire

Donald Trump, fresh from a Gallup poll showing him tied with former Gov. Mike Huckabee for the lead in the Republican race for the White House, is firing back at GOP strategist Karl Rove for calling Trump a "joke candidate."

Trump, who says that Rove has proven himself to be out of touch Donald Trump, Karl Rove, Obama Birth Certificatewith Americans, released the following statement to Newsmax:

"Karl Rove is a loser. He is doing the Republican Party a great disservice by trying to stop the discussion about the president not being able to present his birth certificate to the American people – or to assure the American people as to his place of birth. This is a great issue for Republicans, and I can tell you that the president is spending millions of dollars fighting this issue and he doesn't like it at all.

"I also have great respect for the states considering legislation that would require a birth certificate, not a certificate of live birth, be mandatory in order for a candidate to appear on a presidential ballot in their state.

"Karl Rove should go into retirement where he belongs. The old machinery is broken, and new and much smarter blood is needed."

Trump debuted atop a new Gallup poll released Friday that, for the first time, listed the billionaire businessman as a potential Republican presidential hopeful. Trump garnered 16 percent of the support in the survey of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, tying Huckabee, according to Gallup.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney finished third, with 13 percent, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin snagged 10 percent. The rest of the field came in at 6 percent or less in the poll, based on telephone interviews April 15 to 20 with a random sample of 1,047 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents.
