
A new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) finds the Obama administration gave taxpayer funds to an organization that illegally lobbied Kenya to liberalize its abortion law while the president’s ancestral nation was in the process of revising its constitution. Moreover,a high-ranking State Department employee stonewalled the investigation. And the State Department is refusing to draft guidelines to help its employees comply with the law in the future,as the GAO report prescribes.
The Obama administration dedicated at least $18 million to convince Kenyans to ratify the new constitution,which expanded women’s legal right to an abortion. Although a federal law known as the Siljander Amendment forbids U.S. funds to be used for abortion advocacy,the federal watchdog agency found one recipient of U.S. aid pressed the issue nonetheless.

An election for President and Commander in Chief of the Military must strive to be above reproach. Our public institutions must give the public confidence that a presidential candidate has complied with the election process that is prescribed by our Constitution and laws. It is only after a presidential candidate satisfies the rules of such a process that he/she can expect members of the public, regardless of their party affiliations, to give him/her the respect that the Office of President so much deserves.
