Et Tu, SNL?
By Joy Tiz Tuesday, October 6, 2009
Telegraph reporter Stephanie Gutmann describes her reaction to Obama’s appearance in Berlin: “After it was over I picked up the phone and called a friend back home. “It’s worse than we thought,” I told him. “The guy’s actually crazy.’”
Guttman was talking about candidate Obama’s agenda as he presented it that day, in which he promised to take on the terrorists in Afghanistan, take on the drug dealers, rebuild Afghanistan, eliminate the building nuclear threat, secure all loose nukes, decrease arsenals from another era, form a new global partnership that will end terror networks, redistribute wealth, save the planet, withdraw all troops from Iraq, keep the oceans from rising, end famine, and reduce carbon output.
Those notororiously right- wing racists at SNL jumped the shark this past weekend, with a skit about the excruciatingly conspicuous roster of Obama’s failures. His plans for a “change we can believe in” were always preposterous. Opening with his failure to secure the 2016 Olympic Games for Chicago, SNL’s Obama said it was just further proof that his detractors’ fears are unfounded: How could he transform the country into something resembling the former Soviet Union or Nazi Germany when he’s failed to accomplish anything at all? “When you look at my record,” he said, “it’s very clear what I’ve done so far, and that is nothing.”
Nary a day went by in 2008 in which we were not reminded that in Barack Obama, we had the chance to redeem ourselves and finally elect a smart president, not like that dopey George W. Bush with his manifest lack of artistry with a teleprompter.
Obama, we were incessantly assured, is a genius. America, we were told, had an exigent need for a brilliant scholar with an Ivy League education. Candidate Obama was at once articulate and former editor of Harvard Law Review! One could hardly be expected to find a more able leader of the free world.
The Obamanutz movement, aided by the ministry of propaganda, propelled a completely unqualified candidate into the White House. Obama certainly was not elected on anything we could describe as merit. His extreme radical ideology and razor-thin resume made him an implausible choice for leader of the free world. America not only elected the Alinsky alum, they created a mass movement around him.
Obama’s lack of a coherent foreign policy is one consequence of his dogged do-nothingness and the most menacing for America and the world. As his hand-picked general pleads for more troops, Obama stages fantasy photo ops for himself.
Ending a love affair with a narcissist is even harder than ending a healthy relationship. Narcissists don’t take it well. As Bernard Goldberg put it, many Americans are “dumb and in love” with Barack Obama. The true believers continue to pose as members of an objective media, all the while being led around by the nose by the New York Times.
Directly challenging the true believer makes him dig his heels in deeper. The one truth about cults or mass movements is that the outcome depends on the character of the leader. When SNL begins to turn on their favorite liberal, take heed. As goes SNL, so goes the nation.
