They Do Now

Over the years I've gone to various coastal spots along the Texas coast. On one occasion I checked out a wharf where the shimpers came in, I was told you could buy shrimp right off the boat. Made sense to me, so I stopped by. I recall one boat I watched come in for the day, was crewed by a couple of fellows as it turned out might not have been very good at their work, or perhaps had, had a bad day.

A few people had gathered with the same intentions as myself, to buy some fresh shrimp. As the boat docked, the deckhand swung the days, catch over the rail, less than five pounds of shrimp were available for sale, that was it. It was the shrimpiest catch I had ever seen, I was expecting bulging bays full of shrimp. Nope it was more like Forest Gump's early shrimp salad days, used auto tire omitted. A puny catch, if ever there was one. I actually felt sorry for those two guys, working all day, spending out the cash to get to and fro, only to come in with a less than a party platter. A small party platter at that.

My brother came down from Boston for a visit at the beginning of May, about 2 weeks after the BP oil spill. While we were running around, the radio reported Louisiana shimpers were putting in claims for $2,000 a day lost income. My bro' remarked."I didn't realized shimpers made that kind of money" me being the perpetual joker replied "They doooooo now, hahahahahha"!

As Hayward gets skewered today by the congressional inquisition, one inquisitor took a break from her machiavellian style torture session, to address Fox's Neil Cavuto. Congresswoman Diana Degette(C)ommucrat Colorado, spewed off some disinformation as to the horrid treatment BP is putting the good folks from La, through.

"Neil there's a case of one Louisiana shrimper, who filed his claim with BP, he had all of his paperwork in order, he was asking for relief for the month of May, he used all of his gross receipts from last May, $26,000 and what did BP pay him, $5,000 bucks. "

What did she expect BP to pay him, the whole $26,000? She did say gross, not net after expenses didn't she? BP gave him a 20% profit on his gross sales. Not bad.

Matter of fact, I didn't realize shrimpers netted (no pun intended, oh hell yes it was) a 20% pure profit margin. They doooooo nowww!! hahahahhaa. Those bayou boys would never, fudge on their efficiency at making money.

Not too many businesses can walk away with a 20% profit, maybe we as consumers need to lodge a complaint that these OPEC wannabe bayou profiteers are hijacking our fish dinners at Red Lobster. Oh the ying and yang of life.
