What is Donald Trump Up To?

By Gina Miller on April 14th, 2011

In watching the amazing explosion of Donald Trump on the political scene this year, I keep asking myself what he’s up to.  As I wrote in a previous column, some of Mr. Trump’s past professions of liberal beliefs and his political contributions to more Democrats than Republicans, leaves me wondering just who he really is.
So, here he comes on Tuesday with the not-so-surprising declaration that if he decides to run and does not get the Republican nomination, he would “probably yes” run as an Independent.  Gads!  Is America ready to buck the two-party system and put an Independent candidate in the White House?  I kind of doubt it.  Does Mr. Trump believe it could happen?  Again, I kind of doubt it.
That leaves me to ask, what are you up to, Mr. Trump?  Knowing how firmly locked into the two-party system our political machine is, how do you imagine you might break that concrete ceiling?  How do you suppose you could defeat Barack Obama while splitting the conservative vote?  What is really behind your statement on Tuesday?  Is it actually a threat to the Republicans to nominate you, or else?
As The Hill reported on Tuesday,
“Trump, the reality TV star who has been flirting with a run for president, suggested that other Republicans vying for the party’s nomination are concerned he might wage a third-party campaign, which Trump said he thought was a viable path to the White House.
‘The concern is, if I don’t win, will I run as an Independent? And the answer is probably yes,’ Trump said in a video interview with The Wall Street Journal.
…He said he was actively thinking about the possibility of running as an Independent, but expressed worry that doing just that would only hurt the eventual GOP’s chances against Obama.
‘I’m thinking about that, and that’s bothered me, because I’m very conservative,’ said Trump, who’s set to make a final decision about running in June.”
Mr. Trump says it bothers him that he might run as an Independent, because he’s “very conservative.”  What?!  It sounds to me as if he really is making a threat to the GOP leadership to make him the 2012 nominee, or suffer the consequences.  That further leads me to question how truly conservative he is if he is willing to thrust Obama into a second term just to punish those who don’t give him his way.  It does not make sense, unless there is more to the story.  Is Mr. Trump working out a deal with the Left to spoil the conservative vote?
It’s a legitimate question when you consider that just this past December, Mr. Trump donated $50,000 to help Rahm Emanuel worm his way into the Chicago mayor’s seat. Why on earth would someone who claims to be “very conservative” give a dime to a creature like Rahm Emanuel?  The contradiction that is Donald Trump is a very puzzling thing.
Lately, Mr. Trump has leveraged the Obama eligibility issue to propel himself even more firmly onto the main stage, gaining massive support from conservatives who demand to see Obama’s proof of eligibility to hold the office of President of the United States.  Mr. Trump is focusing on Obama’s elusive birth certificate, but Obama’s eligibility does not necessarily hinge on his being born in the United States and having a birth certificate which says so.
There is a column worth reading that was published Monday at The Patriots News website.  It was written by J.B Williams, who is the co-founder of PatriotsUnion.org and ThePatriotsNews.com.  The piece titled, “Is Obama Eligibility a Side Show or the Main Event?” makes the point that regardless of where Obama was born, his father was never an American citizen, thus Obama is not a natural born American citizen.
As Mr. Williams writes,
“A total talent vacuum in the Republican Party has unlikely sorts considering a run for the White House, now to include business mogul Donald Trump, who appears ready to run for office on the search for a real Obama birther certificate.  Not a COLB, but a real, authentic birth certificate that looks just like every other American birth certificate.
The press is largely responsible for the ongoing circus, as they have been completely uninterested in the matter for almost three years now. Never before in history has the press taken so little sincere journalistic interest in what could be the greatest scam ever perpetrated on American voters.
They still claim that Obama’s COLB (Certification of Live Birth) is an actual birth certificate, even though we all know that it isn’t. We have seen real Hawaii birth certificates from people born in Hawaii on the same day Obama claims to have been born….
But is the missing birth certificate the real issue?”
There’s the question, and the answer according to Mr. Williams is no.  As he points out, there is more than one definition of “natural born citizen,”
“The [Obama robot, or] Obot definition is simply citizen – native, natural, naturalized, hatchet, all being one in the same – using 14th Amendment naturalization arguments, which are actually unrelated to the subject.
The birther definition is one line borrowed from [Emmerich de Vattel’s] book on the Law of Nations: ‘The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.’  But this definition ignores everything else Vattel said on the matter.
The historians definition also comes from Vattel’s Law of Nations, but relies on the entire body of work: 1) As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights; 2) The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; 3) To be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.
According to the Obot definition, all American citizens are natural born citizens eligible for office, including 14th Amendment citizens, which means, Article II, Section 1, Clause V, of the Constitution means nothing at all.
According to birthers searching for an authentic Hawaiian birth certificate, confirming Obama’s birth place, or native born status, will establish whether or not Obama is eligible for the office he holds.
Obama is happy with both of these definitions. The Obot definition of ‘citizen’ sets the bar so low that Obama is confident he can meet that test, as could any anchor baby or 14th Amendment citizen.
Once birthers help Obots establish that native and natural born are the same thing, Obama will likely find his missing birth certificate, even if the ink is not yet dry.”
Indeed!  Obama’s whole eligibility charade could easily serve to set a precedent to undo the constitutional requirements to be president, and Mr. Trump’s actions would only be helping that, if his main focus is simply the missing birth certificate.  If Mr. Trump is serious about challenging Obama’s eligibility, he needs to focus on Obama’s father.  As I have said before, if Obama’s father is who Obama claims, then his father is a foreigner, and Obama is not a natural born American citizen, even if he was born on Capitol Hill.
Mr. Williams concludes his column,
“Why are birthers still in search of a birth certificate? What do they think they can gain from finding that missing document?
If the goal is to uphold the Constitution and preserve the future of the constitutional republic, then they need only remove Obama from office, along with all who participated in the grandest scam ever perpetrated upon American voters.
Members of Congress and the Supreme Court either know this truth, or they should. They are either looking the other way for political gain, or they are horrifically unqualified for the jobs they currently hold. Either way, they are complicit.
The ongoing search for a birth certificate is a dangerous distraction from the search for truth. The future of freedom and liberty hang in the balance. The people must get this one right, or they will get nothing else right.
This matter is no side show – it is the main event!”
I agree.  The fact that the Left, their media minions, and even some on the Right clamor so loudly that this Obama eligibility issue is stupid, useless and of no importance, tells me that the opposite is true.
Mr. Trump should do more research if he honestly desires to expose Obama’s past.  This is about much more than a missing birth certificate.
Meanwhile, we will have to wait and see what the deal with Mr. Trump is.  Why is he threatening to run as a third-party candidate when he has not yet even announced he is running for president?  He has said he will announce his decision in June after his television show The Apprentice is done for the season.
With all of his aggressive self-promotion lately, it would seem a given that he is going to run.  But, as I said in my earlier column about him, I would not trust him to govern as a true conservative if he were elected president.
If Mr. Trump runs and then loses the Republican nomination, I hope he would have mercy on the American people and not run as a third-party candidate.  If he does end up running as an Independent, I will believe this whole thing has been a scheme Mr. Trump worked out with the powers of the Left to guarantee Obama gets a second, hellish term in the White House.
