One Man Makes a Difference

I haven't been living at the White House long, but yesterday was the worst day I've experienced yet. There wasn't much loving going on. Lots of closed doors. Usually, I can mosey down to the Big Round Office and gain admittance. But Katie Johnson, Master's personal secretary, wouldn't let me in. She came out from around her desk and knelt down to pet me and run her fingers over my back. "I'm sorry, fella, but you can't go in there today. He's grumpy. And so is everyone else. I don't think it would be a good idea if I let you in." She gave me a kiss on the top of my head. I wagged my tail. I walked back through the West Wing and found nothing but closed doors. Very depressing. I know they were in meetings figuring out how to handle that Brown guy's victory. But what does that have to do with me? I usually make people feel better. The open offices were deserted. Even Robert Gibbs wasn't in his office; he was in the press room telling reporters, "That anger is now pointed at us because we're in charge. And rightly so." Really, there was no one around. I was thinking about needing to go outside, but I was rounded up by Mom who took me along as she greeted some tourists in the Blue Room. They all showered me with attention, which was nice. When they left, I urgently needed someone to take me outside, so I found Dale Haney, the keeper of the White House grounds, and let him know I had to do my business. He said, "Sure thing, Bo." He took me for a walk on the South Lawn. It seemed much more cold and quiet outside than usual. Something was changed. It was like all the hope in the world had evaporated leaving me alone and isolated. Can the election of one man from Massachusetts really make that big of a difference to everything? Maybe so.
