Thomas Jefferson a Founder of Our Nation and a Framer of Our Constitution used his personal copy of 1775 french edition of “The Law of Nations or Principles of Natural Law” by Vattel to help write the Founding Documents.
The founders and framers were fluent in French. Thomas Jefferson used his personal copy of the new 1775 french edition of the Vattel’s Law of Nations or Principles of Natural Law to write the Declaration of Independence and for the creation of the U.S. Constitution. Quotations such as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, “Laws of Nature” and concepts for a new “more perfect” form of government with a written Constitution and independent Judiciary and the sovereignty of the People are right out of Vattel’s Law of Nations or Principles of Natural Law.

An election for President and Commander in Chief of the Military must strive to be above reproach. Our public institutions must give the public confidence that a presidential candidate has complied with the election process that is prescribed by our Constitution and laws. It is only after a presidential candidate satisfies the rules of such a process that he/she can expect members of the public, regardless of their party affiliations, to give him/her the respect that the Office of President so much deserves.
Evidently George Washington himself valued the "Law of Nations" so highly that he borrowed a copy from the NY Public Library -- and never returned it!
