During his announcement speech, Cruz invoked his “personal history,” which includes travel among Canada, the U.S., Cuba, and Africa, to say, “These are who we are as Americans. And yet for so many Americans, the promise of America seems more and more distant,” Cruz said.
Liberty University President and Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. introduced Cruz, praising him for “standing on principle” and “taking the road less traveled” in a reference to Cruz’s apparent opposition to the Washington establishment since his election to the U.S. Senate in 2012.
At 14:25 in the 76-minute C-Span video of his announcement, Cruz said that he carried over $100,000 in student loans which he “just paid off a few years ago.”
Barack Hussein Obama has also frequently attempted to define “who we are as Americans” and claimed that his student loans totaling $120,000 were not fully paid “until his election to the Senate in 2004.”
Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban-citizen father who reportedly became a Canadian in 1973 after completing the five-year residency requirement. The elder Cruz then reportedly abandoned his wife and very young son and flew to Houston, TX.

An election for President and Commander in Chief of the Military must strive to be above reproach. Our public institutions must give the public confidence that a presidential candidate has complied with the election process that is prescribed by our Constitution and laws. It is only after a presidential candidate satisfies the rules of such a process that he/she can expect members of the public, regardless of their party affiliations, to give him/her the respect that the Office of President so much deserves.
